New for Fall 2008...
After School Clubs!
Over the past 20 years in Explore! Art & Clay classes, we have been helping young children grow into confident artists and potters. We've had so much success with not only our after school classes but also our summer camps that we decided to combine the two!
2008 will be our first year of offering after school enrichment clubs - that have the fun subjects of our summer camps with the convenience of a weekly hour or 1 1/2 hour long class. Kids will have fun doing what they love, as they are taught basic to advanced concepts and techniques along the way, all while enjoying our calm, non-judgmental atmosphere. Our instructors are uniquely qualified in their field and have experience working with children - making certain that students not only learn, but have a great time, too! A variety of media appropriate to each club will be introduced throughout the year and all supplies are included in the cost. Shows, demonstrations and performances will be held throughout the year.
Our clubs are offered at our North Raleigh at Falls of Neuse location. No experience is necessary for most clubs - just a willingness to learn! Enrollment has already started and classes will begin as soon as three or more students register. Each club costs just $80 per month. We want you to have fun - so if a student refers four new friends to take a club too, they get a month free! If you have questions about activities or want to enroll, just call us at 919-862-8866.
Clubs began the week of September 15th, but you can enroll anytime. Call today to register!
Club Descriptions & Schedules
Robotics (Ages 7 and up): This club is truly "more than meets the eye"! If your kids like to build, tinker, take things apart, are intrigued by how things work, then come learn the basics of robotics and how robots can be useful and fun. Using Lego robotics kits and computers, students will build simple robots, program them, test them, and watch them perform their tasks. Your transformers fans will gain not only programming skills but also an understanding of the history of robotics in both science and pop culture.
Dolls Galore! (Ages 6 and up):If your daughter loves her doll, then imagine how proud of herself she'll be after she sews a dress for her by hand! Together we'll explore the stories of popular historic American dolls with period themed crafts that include making a keepsake box, photo frame, dreamcatcher, jewelry, and other fun activities. Girls will get an introduction to sewing by hand as we create a sachet, pincushion, doll sized sundress, quilt, and more. Don't forget to bring your doll each week to share in the fun of tea parties, show and tell, and fashion shows!
Video Game Development (Ages 8 and up): Don't just sit there playing video games - make your own! During this club, you'll learn about game design, concepts, setting, storytelling and narrative, character creation, interface design, game play, internal economy, core mechanics, game genres, AI in games, and online games. We'll also delve into the effects of games on society, the psychology of games, and look to the future with careers in game development. Working individually and in groups, students create games using various game programming tools. This camp introduces students to industry standard 3D animation tools, which they can use to bring their models and objects to life with programs such as Maya, 3D Studio Max and Blender. Lessons include key framing, motion paths, function curves and graphs, animated parameters and modifiers and animated hierarchies, in addition to creation of 3D models and animations.
